About Us
Who are we?
The Sustainability Group has over 1000 voting members: local people taking action to combat climate change. We employ four staff, supported by volunteers at the MASG office in Castlemaine, central Victoria.
Details of committee and staff.
Our members are householders and local schools, businesses, and community organisations. A charity and non-government organisation, MASG is able to receive tax deductible donations to assist us with our work. Click on the links see our Constitution or Volunteer policy.
MASG staff and dozens of volunteers are working on positive responses to climate change and peak oil; and are seeking ways to get renewable energy systems in place in this region. Castlemaine is close to the centre of Mount Alexander Shire, home to around 18,000 people and 120km north west of Melbourne. Our initial focus is on reducing our carbon emissions through improving energy efficiency and increasing the supply of renewable energy.
Who are we working with?
This goal cannot be achieved without engagement and creative input from all parts of our community. We have formed links and partnerships with:
- The Castlemaine State Festival
- Large and small businesses
- The Local Council
- Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance
- Castlemaine Community House
- Health organisations
- Community groups
- Castlemaine Continuing Education
- Volunteers, and
- Our members – 1000 strong and growing
How are we funded?
Local donors provided seeding money to enable the Group to start. We have obtained funding from Commonwealth, State, and philanthropic organisations to keep our work going, and we are on the Register of Environmental Organisations so donations to MASG are tax deductible.
Our Structure
The Mount Alexander Sustainability Group is an incorporated, not for profit organisation on the Register of Environmental Organisations with the Department of Environment and Heritage. Our work is guided by our Strategic Plan for 2007-2009 which is undergoing a review this year (2010). To view an abridged version of our plan please click here.
